We're only one month away from winter and many of us are already regularly using our furnaces to warm our homes and stay comfortable as temperatures drop. Unfortunately, this is also usually the time that homeowners realize that their furnace is not working correctly. Below, we take a look the some of the most common furnace issues and what can be done to remedy them.

Pilot Light or Ignition Control Issues

Have you had issues with intermittent or no heat with your furnace since you've started using it this year? If so, you may be experiencing an issue with your pilot light. Most modern systems now use electronic systems to ignite gas burners and produce heat—but that hasn't made them fool-proof. If you're experiencing spotty heat or no heat at all, then it's time to call a professional.

Thermostat Issues

Your home's thermostat is how you communicate with your furnace, so even if your furnace is in perfect working order, a bad thermostat could cause a host of different heating issues. If you've noticed a lack of heat, uneven heat throughout your home, or a lack of force from the air coming from your vents, the connection between your thermostat and your furnace may be to blame.

Clogged Burners

On a furnace, a burner is the device that produces the flames necessary to heat your home (much like on a kitchen stove). Over time, these burners can be exposed to dust, rust, and other debris. When this happens, it can prevent your furnace from producing the heat it should. If your home isn't receiving the boost in temperature it should, dirty, clogged burners may be the problem.

Dirty Filters

We've written on this blog before about the importance of a clean, functional furnace filters. It's easy to forget about this crucial part of your heating system, but when filters become clogged or dirty, not only can they block warm air from reaching your home, they can negatively affect the quality of your air, as well.

The good news is that there is still time to remedy these furnace issues.
