Keep Your Outdoor Unit Clean

Your outdoor unit can become bogged down with things like dirt, dust, sticks, leaves, grass, weeds, and plenty of other things. This restricts airflow through your cooling fins, prevents your coil from cooling properly, and thus makes your air conditioner less effective and less efficient. Twice a year, take a close look at your outdoor unit and trim away any plants, grass, weeds, or other things that may have grown to encroach on your outdoor unit back to a radius of three feet. You’ll not only notice a difference at how well your system cools your home, but how quickly it does it as well.

Change Your Air Filter

A dirty air filter is the cause of a large number of service visits we have to make every year, and virtually all of those service visits could have been prevented had the homeowner regularly checked their air filter and changed it when necessary. Changing your air filter is a piece of cake—it takes only a few minutes, and new filters cost just as few dollars to purchase. In fact, keep a few of them somewhere in your house so you can simply swap out your air filter when it becomes dirty. This will not only prevent breakdowns, but eliminate odors, keep dust out of the air, and even make breathing easier for anyone in your home who suffers from allergies.

Get Your Annual Maintenance

Is annual maintenance really all that important? Is an oil change important for your car? It absolutely is, and the same is true for maintenance on your heating and cooling system. Not only can annual maintenance help you save money by making sure your system runs at its best, but it can even help prevent serious breakdowns that could cost a fortune. Maintenance can also extend the life of your system, further improving the investment you’ve made in your home!
